Two St Andrew crashes leave woman feared dead and 10 children injured
Police and emergency teams are this afternoon dealing with two serious crashes in rural St Andrew. One has left a woman feared dead while the other injured several schoolchildren.
In the first incident, a female driver is believed to have lost her life after the car she was driving plunged over a precipice along the Newcastle main road sometime after 3 p.m. The vehicle remains at the bottom of the gorge with the woman's body still trapped inside as police and fire personnel carry out recovery efforts.
In Gordon Town, at least 10 children had to be rushed to the University Hospital of the West Indies after the bus they were travelling in overturned along Dublin Castle Road about 3:30 p.m. The vehicle, a Toyota Hiace, was transporting students when the accident occurred.
The condition of the children is not immediately known.
Traffic investigators are probing both incidents.
