Optimum Jamaica supports national U21 netball team

September 16, 2025

KINGSTON:

Optimum Jamaica has contributed $250,000 to the Netball Foundation of Jamaica in support of the national under-21 team as they prepare for the 2025 Netball World Youth Cup which takes place in Gibraltar from September 19-28.

The donation comes at a crucial time as sponsorship had been sought to enable the young Sunshine Girls to secure their place on the world stage. Optimum Jamaica, driven by its core principles of empowerment, community, and innovation, stepped in to ensure the team's dreams could be realised.

Under-21 captain Roxonna McLean expressed gratitude.

"We are extremely grateful to have Optimum come on board with this sponsorship. We have been seeking support for a long time and their contribution means so much to us as we prepare for the World Youth Cup."

Leon Davis, senior director & site general manager at Optimum Jamaica, shared his pride in the partnership.

"We are proud to sponsor the Jamaica U21 team. At Optimum, corporate social responsibility is not just a buzzword, it's a commitment we live by. Supporting local teams, especially our young athletes, is an investment in our future. We truly believe that by empowering the next generation we will see the fruits of our labour in championships won, communities uplifted and a stronger Jamaica."

This sponsorship underscores Optimum Jamaica's dedication to giving back and fostering opportunities for Jamaican youth to thrive, both on and off the court.

"Netball Jamaica is truly grateful and appreciative of the support of Optimum Jamaica," said Karen Baugh, president of the Netball Jamaica. "This first-time partnership and donation of $250,000 came at just the right time and enabled us to complete our funding of the airfares for the team.

"The girls were motivated by the addition of the reserve players to the touring party. They are ready to represent Jamaica well and will wear the black, green and gold with pride. Thank you Optimum," said Baugh.
